Series: A Garden for Those Without

Sophie Umana Krauss’ paintings draw from her childhood, spent surrounded by forests and gardens in suburban Berlin, which contrasts with her current life in New York City, where access to nature is scarce and unequal. Through organic forms and layered compositions, she reimagines fragments of lost or inaccessible landscapes, inviting viewers to reflect on both the beauty of nature and the inequalities that shape our access to it. Her work asks urgent questions about who nature is for—and at what cost.
